Louis Brune

Louis Brune was the youngest of the five children of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Brune of Herbsen, Waldeck, Germany. He was born June 17, 1859, and was the only one of this family to come to the USA. He arrived in Grand Mound, Iowa, in March 1882. His two half-brothers came to the USA later. They were Henry Brune of Correctionville, Iowa, and Albert Brune of Oroville, Washington. In 1884, Louis Brune moved From Grand Mound to Woodbury County where he farmed near Rock Branch until he retired.

Louis was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was the last charter member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Rock Branch, which was organized in 1886.

On March 13, 1888, he was united in marriage to Louise Rock of Dixon, Iowa. She preceded him in death of 1914, at the age of 53 years.

After retirement, Louis enjoyed traveling. In later years he made home in Pierson, Iowa, and with his children.

Six children were born to Louis and Louise Brune: 1-Ida, born April 12, 1889, married William Bohle, who died 1958. One child: Fern (Mrs. Brice Supler), Edmonds, Washington, who has three children: Colleen Supler Abrams, Diana Supler Middleton; and Jan Supler.

2-Albert, born August 8, 1891, married Edna Fixsel. One child: Dorothy (Mrs. Robert Ashmore) of Correctionville, Iowa, who has three children: Edna Louise Ashmore Sevening; Becky Ashmore; and Peggy Ashmore.

3-Rose, born July 11, 1893; died September 30, 1979. She married B H ‘Harry’ Waugh who died January 6, 1967. Three children: Opal (Mrs Alvin Wieck) Correctionville, Iowa, who has one child: Rhonda Wieck; Luella (Mrs Ben Dicus) Sioux City, Iowa, who has eight children: Sharon Dicus Smith, Diane Dicus Spaulding; Gary Dicus; Rick Dicus; RoxAnne Dicus Sorenson; LuAnne Dicus Thomasen; Connie Dicus Larson; and Micheal Dicus; and Leonard Waugh (married Doris Livermore) who has five children: Terry Waugh; Linda Waugh Baedke; Steve Waugh; Lisa Waugh; and Kirk Waugh.

4-Louis, born 1895, died 1896.
5-Fred, born January 26, 1899, married Ella Will who died 1969. Fred married Ernestine Gamel.

6-Sadie, born January 22, 1902, married Emmett Murphy, who died January 22, 1976.
