Clarence Luther Brown
By Douglas C Brown

Clarence Luther Brown, son of Ernest and Lizzie Jane Brown, was born October 10, 1893, at Pine Ridge, South Dakota, deceased October, 1939. He married Mamie Wright of Salix, Iowa (born April 3, 1895, and deceased June, 1947) August 9, 1922.

Clarence and Mamie resided at the farm on Brown’s Lake. Clarence joined the Iowa State Ambulance Corps during World War I. Both he and Mamie were very active in the Iowa Farm Bureau and the development of Woodbury County Extension activities. Clarence was a promoter of rural electrification, serving as the first president of the Woodbury County Rural-Electric Cooperation. He was also very active in the early days of the Production Credit Association. The Brown farm was the site of many picnics and ice cream socials during the early days of these rural organizations.

Clarence and Mamie had twin daughters, born May 6, 1923; Margaret Ann (Mrs. Homer Hamilton) and Margery Nan. The twins lived on the farm a number of years following the deaths of their parents. They now live in Sioux City.
