Orville and Emma Meyer Barth
By Emma Meyer BarthOrville Barth and Emma Meyer were married in the Spring of 1921 and lived north of Lawton for several years. He worked for several farmers and farmed some for awhile. We moved to Lawton in 1929 where he worked in the Art Johnson Garage which is now the property of Western Iowa Telephone Association.
Our daughter, Dorothy, started to school at Sunny Side School in Banenr Township and then went to school in Lawton until moving to Bronson in 1937. She graduated from Bronson High School. Our son ‘Jerry’ Gerald L Barth was thirteen months old when we moved form Lawton to Bronson. He grew up in Bronson and also graduated from Bronson High School and worked in ths father’s garage in Bronson for ten years when he decided to go to college. By that time he was married and lived in Morningside in Sioux City where he went to college two years and then to Westmar College, LeMars for two years where he graduated. He taught school at Carroll, Iowa for one year then moved back to Sioux City to teach advanced auto mechanics in the career education center. He married Shirley Dawdy. They live in Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa. They have three children: Kathy, the oldest married Kenneth Weber from Delmont, South Dakota, for three years. They had a baby daughter, five months old, Stephanie Marie. Their son, Jerry Michael, is in his last year at Morningside College. He married Donna Schemmel, June 11, 1983. He has been working at Floor to Ceiling in Morningside this summer. Kim will be a Junior at East High School this year. Shirley works at East High.
Dorothy graduated from Business College and worked at Union Freightways. She married William Goodwin in 1943. They lived in Storm Lake for a few years. Then they moved back to Lawton. They have three children: Bill, Joyce and Judy. They are all married and have grandchildren.
