Christen and Christina Christensen

Christen Jensen Christensen and wife, Christina Sorensen Christensen, came to the United States form Denmark in 1891, accompan ied by their 11-month-old daughter, Anna Katrina. They lived in the Crawford County area for several years. Christen was made a naturalized citizen there on October 13, 1896. After living for a while in Monona County, they moved to Woodbury County, living in the Luton area and then the Climbing Hill area. Ten sons and daughters were born to this union. Chris died December 28, 1923; Christina died March, 1957. They are buried at the Climbing Hill Cemetery. Their children are:

1-Anna Katherine, b May 2, 1890, d November 1982. She never married, dedicating her life to caring for her mother and blind brother, Art. She raised a large garden and cooked vast quantities of food for family gatherings each Sunday. She nurtured her many nieces and nephews as though they were her own. Annie cooked ‘hot lunches’ at the Climbing Hill School for many years, where she was known for her delicious hot rolls and donuts, and no nonsence advice to the students.

2-Alfred, born March 6, 1892. He is a retired minister living at Hawkeye, Iowa. He married Arvilla Smith, b August 11, 1887, on January 16, 1916. Their children are: Alpha, Eldon and Dale. 1-Alpha, born July 1, 1917, married Ivan Datisman. Children: Beverly, married Kenneth Kruempel, children Tamara and Derek; 2-Rchard, married Judith Daack, children, Christopher, Douglas, Amanda, Brandi; 3-Roger, married Beverly Hintgen, children Kimberly and Kerri; 4-Susan married David Albrecht, children, Jeremy and Gynger; and 5-Janet, married Dean Wieser.
Dr Eldon, born September 22, 1918, married Doris Olson. Children: Camille, married to Dr Kevin Lindahl; and Pamela, married to Brian Briese.
Wesley Dale, b September 25, 1922, married Marilyn Jepson. Children: Steven, Douglas, Lynne.
3-Arthur, born May 28, 1894, died November 17, 1979. Art was blinded as a boy after being hit in the eye by glass thrown when a train ran over a bottle. He never married, lived with his mother and Anna.
4-Herman, born May 16, 1897, died March 17, 1953. Married Lottie McPherson, born December 21, 1896, died July 18, 1978. Their chiidren are Betty, Robert Carolyn and Marilyn.
Betty, born January 22, 1927, married James Gittens; five children; divorced. Married Wendell Ludwig. Her children are 1-Susan, married to Cliff Cameron, her children are Traver and Corey; 2-Lynn married to Dan Keegan, children, Tereasa and Christopher; 3-Greg married Shirley Robeson, one child Shane, divorced, married Cindy, child Lance; 4-Mike married Kris Lewis, children Robbie and Katie; 5-Kim married Dave Postello, children, Britton and Tyler.
Robert Gene, born May 27, 1930, married Margaret Tabke. Five children: 1-Juli married Mike Auer, three children (tipletts) Michael, Mathew, Amy; 2-Robert, Jr married Rosemary Gerling, children Robert , 3rd and Andrew; 3-Marsha married Craig Moore, children, Christopher and Elizabeth; 4-Deanna married Kenneth Knipp; 5-Tom
Carolyn, born septembe r5, 1936, married Roger Sulsberger, children, 1-Scott and 2-Michle.
Marilyn, born November 29, 1939, married Don Fredenburg, children, 1-Kristen married to Saul Schoon; 2-Eric.
5-Clara, born November 29, 1898, died June 11, 1975, married Arthur Wright, no children.
6-Chris Henry, born September 9, 1900, died Mdarch 17, 1954, married Cecil Smith, born July 31, 1901. Four children: Pauline, Paul, Gayle and Eileen.
Twins: Pauline (died at birth) and Paul, who married Opal Datisman, nine children; 1-Darrell; 2-Kristine Ann; 3-Mervin; 4:-Juanita; 5-David; 6-Mark; 7-Cynthia; 8-Evan; 9-Paul. Gayle, who married Carol Morrison; three children; 1-Brad marreid Debbie Swanger, children, Megan and Justin; 2-Craig married Mary Wright, children, Angela, Hanna and Scott; 3-Curt, deceased.
Eileen, married to Forrest Kugler, daughter Linda.
7-George, born November 9, 1902, died October 21, 1963. Married Edna Meyers, one daughter, Karen.
8-Lillian, born April 9, 1905. Married Clarence Young. She lives at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She has one child, Marlene, married to Dr Parker Powell, children Wendy, Jeff, Kim.
9-Alice Mae, born February 28, 1909, married Fred Mulfinger; they in Sioux City. Children: 1-Richard, married Carol, three children John, Caroline, Thomas; 2-Donald, married Mary, three children, Jeffery, Michael, Amanda.
10-Clarence, born December 31, 1912, married June Morrison, live in Omaha, Nebraska, four children: 1-LeRoy married Roberta Taylor, son David, divorced, married Charlene Holmes, two children, Gunar and Honey; 2-Janice married Bill Kulper, children Kelly, Christine, Curt; 3-Judy married John Stephens, children Rhonda, Lea, Lisa; 4-Beverly married Richard Morosaak, children Danny, David, Juli.
