Chris Christensen and his wife, Anna, of Langeland, Denmark, arrived in Sergeant Bluff in April, 1891, at the home of their oldest daughter, Christine. Christine had come here a few years prior to this date and had married George Peterson. In 1912, they moved with their two sons, Louis and Peter, to New York. Christine and George are deceased.

When ‘Grandpa’ Chris lived in Denmark, he was a weaver and baker. He helped his son, Peter, with farming operations after coming here.

Peter, fourth son of Anna and Chris, married Sara Peterson of Chicago. Peter and Sara moved to California with their three sons, Charles, Raymond and Edward. Sara died in 1941, Peter in 1951. Charles is deceased.

Johanne, youngest daughter, also preceded her parents to America. She married Rasmus Mogensen. Carl, Anna, Christine and Edward were born to them. Rasmus died in Janaury of 1929; Johanne died in April of the same year. Carl and Edward are deceased.

Rasmus, the eldest son, farmed the Haviland place at Salix. He owned a threshing machine and did custom work. He also ran a livery stable and drove school bus. He never married. He died at age 91 in 1952.

Chris L, the third son, better known as C L, worked at Holman’s brick yard and later for Charles Woodford. He married Sofie Jorgensen, the daughter of Martin and Karen Jorgensen who came to Sergeant Bluff from Denmark in 1880. C L and Sofie lived for a while in Lakeport Township and in 1905 moved to the present family home, three miles south of Sergeant Bluff. Their children are: Arthur, deceased; William, unmarried, liivng on the home place; Wesley of Sergeant Bluff, deceased, married Erma Petersen of Sioux City; Leonard of Sioux City, married Eileen Baker of Sioux City, one daughter Karen Wilson; Marlowe of Sergeant Bluff, married Eleanor Colby Busey, one son, Robert. They had two daughters, Luella, who married Fred Godfredson, deceased, of Sergeant Bluff. Their children are: Margaret DePuy of Lathrop, California, a son, Gary, and a daughter, Lucile; Frances Filler of Cerritos, daughters, Pamela and Debbie all of California; Mildred Tainter of Sergeant Bluff, four children: Tom, Tony Terri and Traci and one son, Fred, Jr, in Sergeant Bluff, who married Margaret Saunders. They have four children: Cozette, married to Paul Ahler; Mark; Colette married to Joe Ries; and Todd, at home.

Pearl, youngest child of Sofie and C L, married Russell Mangun, a Long Beach contractor, after graduating form a California college. They had three sons, Russell, Jr, James and Thomas Cordell. Her husband passed away and she married Ted Wilson.

C L passed away in 1925 Sofie died in 1971.
