William & Sophia Kamphaus

My Great Great Grandfather, was recorded in Census bureau reports as follows: in 1850 in Clayton county under the name Kemphouse, in 1852 as Kamphouse, in 1856(maybe)as Kamphur and in 1870 in Winnesheik county as Kemphener. From 1880 till 1900 he was recorded as Kamphaus in Winneshiek. He died in 1900 and is buried in Winneshiek
I am trying to connect the dots between 1852 and 1870.
I would appreciate any assistance or any suggestions.
