Mrs. John Carl (Ellen Ewing) Schutta
 
Mrs. John C. Schutta, nee Ellen Ewing, the daughter of John Ewing and Margaret Stevens Ewing, was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa on October 27, 1891. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on March 18, 1951. She died at the Community Memorial Hospital on August 20, 1963 at the age of 71 years, nine months and 24 days.

She attended the rural schools in Winneshiek county and was married to John Schutta on October 7, 1915. To this union was born one son, Robert Calvin. The couple farmed in Winneshiek county, near Frankville, after their marriage, and moved to Frankville in 1930, where they have continued to live.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Robert Calvin, who was stillborn.

She is survived by her husband; two sisters, Mrs. John Snitker of Decorah and Mrs. Clarence Crabtree of Decorah; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She cared for her mother for 14 years in her home and for her father for several years, while they were both invalids.

Funeral services were conducted on August 23, at 2:00 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating. Burial was in the Frankville cemetery.
