On Thursday morning, Feb. 25th, the community was shocked when told that Mrs. Haldon Johnson had passed away. Although her health seemed to be failing, she was not confined to her bed. Dr. Nass of Mabel was called Wednesday morning, and again about midnight. Finding his patient in a most critical condition, he called Dr. Lannin, yet regardless of the skill of both physicians Mrs. Johnson passed away about five o’clock of dilation of the heart. Gena Andria Nygard was born in Christiania, Norway, Dec. 28, 1853, and was married to Haldon Johnson in 1873, came to America in the fall of 1874, and settled on a farm near Decorah, Iowa They farmed for several years, then moved to Hesper in 1892, where they have since resided. There are left to mourn the loss of a kind wife and mother, the husband, five daughters and two sons, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral except Mr. Johnson, who is quite ill, and was unable to leave his bed, and Mrs. Linehan, whose child is in a hospital in Chicago. Rev. Rasmussen conducted the services in the Lutheran church, of which deceased was a member. The sympathy of the friends and neighbors go out to this family in their affliction.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.
