Kimberly Teslow age 72 of Decorah, IA passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon, IA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home, 306 East Water St., in Decorah, Iowa. Interment will take place in Manchester, Iowa.
Kimberly was born on March 9, 1952, in Manchester, Iowa, to Glenn and Betty (Wallace) Smith. She married Gordon W. Hunter in April 1971 and later divorced. In April 1994, she married the late Robert (Bob) Teslow, with whom she also later divorced.
Kim graduated from West Delaware High School in Manchester in 1970. In 1973, she and Gordon moved to a farm south of Decorah, IA. She dedicated herself to being a full-time mother while her children were young. Later, she managed and co-owned The Corner Bar, which she successfully ran until its sale in 2013. Afterward, Kim took on various freelance jobs in the area. She also briefly explored her creative side, painting abstract art pieces that she sold.
Kim had a profound love for babies and cherished her role as a caregiver. She enjoyed babysitting her grandsons, who grew up next door and would attend their high school tennis meets. During the summer she could also be found at her son’s slow-pitch softball games. Her dogs, Eddie and Henry, were like her own children, while she tolerated the farm cats that wandered onto her porch with a good-natured humor.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Janet) Hunter of Decorah, Gordon J. (Jamie) Hunter of Concord, NH, Sara (Richard) Marti of Waukon, and Faye (Jason) Southward of Des Moines. Kim had seven grandchildren: Aidan, Brendan, and Tristan Hunter; Adalynn and Emilia Hunter; and Claire and Elijah Southward. She is also survived by her siblings: Kathryn (Kit) Morrison, Tammy (Randy) Toomer, and Jim (Julie) Smith, all of Manchester, sister-in-law Cathy Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Betty Smith; her brothers, John and Tim Smith; her sister, Jeri Smith; and her sister-in-law, Linda Smith.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon for the compassionate care they provided during this difficult time.
