Daniel “Dan” Sobolik, 59, of Elma, IA passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Colonial Manor of Elma.

Daniel Joseph Sobolik was born on October 15, 1965 in Decorah, IA to Joseph and Evelyn (Omdahl) Sobolik. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Protivin where he enjoyed working with his Dad and brothers raising hogs, calves and row crops. He attended Notre Dame Catholic High School in Cresco, IA and graduated with the Class of 1984.

After high school Dan worked a variety of jobs, most of which were ag related. This led him into eventually buying his own semi-truck and trailer, which he was very proud of. Up until a few years before his passing, you could meet him on the road most everyday hauling grain to local elevators.

Dan was a man of many passions and hobbies. He enjoyed watching a number of sports, but his favorite was college basketball. A majority of his summer weekends were spent out fishing on local lakes and rivers. Winters were spent pheasant and deer hunting. He was also an avid polka music fan. Dan played the drums in a number of bands, including the Novotny Trio and the Saratoga Boys gospel quartet for several years.

The one thing Dan was most proud of in life was being a father. He loved sharing his hobbies with his children, and involving them in everything he did. Dan enjoyed helping coach his kids’ sports teams, and rarely ever missed a game or event. He could spend hours talking about his kids to anyone who turned a listening ear.

Dan was a very social man and could carry on a conversation with most anyone. He was always one to lend a helping hand, and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his mother Evie, his daughters: Cassie Sobolik, Cheyenne (Isaac) Frantz and Courtney Sobolik, son Cameron (Rachelle Smith) Sobolik, two brothers Dave (Robin) Sobolik of Cresco and Daryl (Lisa) Sobolik of Cresco, two uncles Jim (Sharon) Sobolik and Richard Sobolik, three aunts: Mary Jarvis, Marie Sobolik and Margaret Sobolik, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Sobolik, son Devin, uncles: Art, Marty and George Sobolik along with his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Saratoga Community Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30am on Tuesday morning at the church until the time of services. Burial will take place in the Bohemian National Cemetery in rural Protivin.
