Derald Tieskoetter, age 82, Decorah, passed away on November 26th, at Aase Haugen Nursing Home.Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 W. Main St. Decorah, IA 52101. Burial to follow at St. Bridgets Cemetery, 253rd Ave 310th St. Bluffton, IA.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Helms Funeral Homes 306 E. Water St, Decorah, IA 52101.
Derald Bernard Tieskoetter was born on May 13, 1942, in Decorah, Iowa to Joseph and Hedwig (Holthaus) Tieskoetter. Derald grew up on his parent’s dairy farm near Ossian. Derald attended St. Francis DeSales School in Ossian, Iowa. He graduated in 1960. After graduation, Derald worked for Paul Kuhn in Fort Atkinson until he was drafted into the army in December of 1963. One of his most memorable moments in the army was when he was stationed in Alabama and served during the Martin Luther King March. He served as a military policeman during the Vietnam War. Derald was discharged from the military in December of 1965.
On May 4, 1968, Derald married Bonnie Brunotte at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian. To this union two sons were born, Donald and Douglas. Derald worked for United Parcel Service for 30 years until his retirement in 1989. He loved his family dearly. The highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren, Derek, Devin, and Dacia. Derald dearly enjoyed farming and in his later years driving his ATV around with his dog, Duke.
Derald is survived by his wife: Bonnie, sons: Donald (Jennifer) Rochester, and Douglas (Shannon) Decorah. Grandchildren: Derek, Devin, and Dacia Tieskoetter of Decorah. Siblings: Roger (Margaret) Postville, Iowa, Marvin (Debbie) Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Lester, Postville, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
Derald was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Hedwig Tieskoetter, two brothers: Kenneth and LeRoy, and one nephew: PhiKhanh Tieskoetter.
