HEAD CRUSHED BY TREE.
Frank Lower, of Frankville Township, Met Death Tuesday Morning.
Tuesday morning Frank Lower of Frankville township, accompanied by his hired man, went to the woods to fell some trees. One had been cut and Mr. Lower was watching it topple over when he was struck upon the head and instantly killed, the blow crushing his skull. Just how the accident occurred is not clear, but it is evident that Mr. Lower either did not notice a limb of the falling tree that was above him, or in falling the tree broke a limb from another tree that hit him, resulting in his death.
Mr. Lower is a son of L. K. Lower of Decorah and resided on the homestead in Section 10, Frankville township. He was between thirty and thirty-five years of age and is survived by his wife and two children. An accident at any time is never a pleasant thing to contemplate, but coming at a time of rejoicing and gladness it is particularly hard to bear. In their sorrow the family are in a measure consoled by the sympathy of many friends.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1882 and is buried in the Frankville Cemetery.

This community was startled Tuesday morning when the news was circulated that Frank Lower was dead. He with Fred Stock and his hired man had gone to the woods in Glenwood township where he was cutting logs preparatory for use in the erection of a new barn in the spring. He and Mr. Stock had sawed through a tree and as it started to fall stepped back to a place of safety, still holding the saw. In falling the tree struck another one and a limb was broken off which was thrown back, striking Frank on the head, death being instantaneous. Frank Christian Lower was born July 24, 1882, and has lived all his life on his father’s farm near Frankville. He was married Feb. 22, 1905, to Miss Hattie Bell Stock and to them three children were born, Ruth, Elnora, John Wesley and Lewis Frederick, who died in infancy. Besides his wife and children there remain his father L. K. Lower of Decorah and two sisters, Mrs. Emily Waters of this place and Mrs. Maude Lowery of Decorah to cherish his memory. His mother died Feb. 18, 1912. Frank was a man highly respected, a good neighbor and friend and the sympathy of all is extended to Mrs. Lower, who was so suddenly bereft of a loving husband and left to face life’s battle alone with her little ones. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Young of Waukon, and he was laid to rest in the village cemetery.
