E. K. OLSON SUICIDES.
Hangs Himself in the Garret of J. G. Borlaug’s Blacksmith Shop.
E. K. Olson committed suicide last Friday by hanging himself in the garret of J. G. Borlaug’s blacksmith shop on Washington street. Mr. Olson came over to the shop in the morning, as was his custom, and proceeded to help out in the work. He was working on a small job when Mr. Borlaug had occasion to come up town and when he returned Mr. Olson was not about. Nothing was thought of it, as he was supposed to have gone home to dinner. Mr. Borlaug desired to have him cover over in the afternoon to help with some more work so he telephoned to his home, asking if he was there, and was surprised to learn that he had not been at home since he left in the morning. Search was begun and after a while the garret was entered and Olson was found hanging by the neck dead. He was taken down and the coroner notified but as it clearly a case of suicide no inquest was considered necessary. The deed must have been committed shortly after 10:30 o’clock, almost immediately after Mr. Borlaug went up town. Mr. Olson was once an inmate of the asylum at Independence and had been returned as cured. While at times he might act a little queerly nothing was thought of it nor any desperate action considered likely,
Mr. Olson was born Oct. 16, 1858, in Fillmore county, Minn. He was married thirty years ago to Miss Anna Iverson, who, with eight of their nine children, survive. He is also survived by four brothers and three sisters. In their bereavement the family have the sympathy of many friends.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows he was born in 1860 which does not agree with the above. He is buried in the Lutheran Decorah Cemetery.
