Grandfather Benda passed away last Saturday morning. The funeral took place to-day. We are without particulars. Obituary will be given next week.

Ignatz Benda one of our pioneer settlers, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 1914. At the home of his son Lewis and family. He was ill for about two weeks and death was due chiefly to old age. The deceased was born in Bohemia Feb. 7th, 1825, and came to America in 1853, first settling at Cleveland Ohio. In 1850 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Linhart. He came to Winneshiek county in 1854. The funeral occurred Dec. 7th at 10 o’clock at the St. Wenceslaus church, Rev. J Broz officiating. The pall bearers were Frank Ondrashek, Jos. Mikesh, Wenzel Zak, Simon Michael, Chas. Houska and John Fisher. The deceased leaves to mourn nine children—Thomas of Spirit Lake, Joseph of St. Paul, John of East Grand Forks, Minn., Anna, Mrs. Valek of Duncan , Iowa, Josephine, Mrs. Ira of Protivin, and James, Lewis J., Miss Barbara and Mrs. M. Bena of Spillville. Three of his children, Frank, Mrs. Frank Valenta and Miss Helena preceded him to their reward, and Mrs. Benda the wife of the deceased, died 27 years ago in July. May he receive the reward of peace eternal after a long well spent life.
