The remains of W. J. Masters of Walnut Grove, Minn., were brought here for burial and the funeral was held Sunday. The deceased was an uncle of C. N. Masters of Burr Oak and of H. W. and J. F. Masters of Canton, Minn. The remains were accompanied here by his wife, his son W. A. Masters and wife and two granddaughters, Mrs. John Doig and Mrs. Henry Norton, all of Walnut Grove. Wm. James Masters was born June 16, 1829, at Homby, N. Y., and came to Iowa with his family in 1857. He resided here until 1876, when he moved to Walnut Grove, Minn., where he died Sept. 24, 1914, aged 85 years, 3 months and 8 days. He is survived by his wife, his son W. A. Masters, two grand-daughters and one great grandson. This family have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends.

The following was taken from the Walnut Grove Tribune:--William James Masters passed away September 24, 1914, after a long illness at the advanced age of over eighty-five years. His health has been failing for several years and the last half dozen years he has spent almost exclusively at his home in the village. He was one of the early settlers of this community, having lived here for almost forty years, and in the early days while still enjoying good health he was one of the most active and enterprising men in the county. Short funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. B. Pardun of the Congregational church. The remains were sent to Burr Oak, Ia., for interment in the family lot. The casket was accompanied to the last resting place by the widow and son W. A. Masters and wife and granddaughters Mrs. J. I. Doig and Mrs. H. J Norton. W. J. Masters was born June 16tth, 1829 at Orange, N. Y. of which state the family had long been residents, and he grew to manhood in his native state and in 1856 was married to Miss Emmeline Hurly. In 1857 they moved to Iowa where they lived until 1876 when they moved up here, where Mr. Masters has lived since then. On August 21, 1883 his wife passed away and he was married a second time on July 6, 1887, to Jane Sharp of Iowa, who survives him. He is also survived by one son, W. A. Masters, and two granddaughters and a grandson, besides other relatives in this state, in Iowa and in New York, and a large number of friends who have known and valued him for a half century and more.
