Daniel “Dan” Schmitt age 63 of Fort Atkinson, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Pillar of Cedar Valley in Waterloo, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at St. John Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA with Rev. Nick Radloff presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery, following the service.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the St. John Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Thursday.

Dan was born September 14th, 1961, in Decorah, Iowa at the Smith Memorial Hospital. Dan was the son of Richard and Charlene Schmitt (Meyer). He was one of six siblings: Diane Ungerer (Dave Ungerer), Richard Schmitt (Bert Schmitt), Loren Schmitt (Theresa Lou Schmitt), In memory of Dan, Mary Schmitt, Steve Schmitt (Jessica Schmitt). Dan graduated in 1979 from Turkey Valley, he then attended NICC in Calmar to continue with ag tech. He grew up on the farm and never left. He found his passion with his animals and his nieces and nephews though the years. He loved spending time, working alongside, and cheering them on in any activities. Some of his hobbies included Oliver tractors and riding them in parades, tractor pulls, racing, and his daily drive around the countryside, and anything he could work on. He was a very hardworking man.

He was preceded by his brother Dan, and his mother (Charlene Schmitt) and father (Richard Schmitt).
