On Friday morning, Sept. 4, after a lingering illness, Thomas Iverson Strand{?} passed away here at his home, surrendering his soul to the Divine Keeper at the advanced age of 87 years, 2 months and 25 days. Mr. Iverson was born in Vang, Valders, Norway, June 10th, 1827, and came here to America in 1853. An early pioneer of Winneshiek county, he built his home in Springfield township, where he resided until death. On March 14, 1859, he was united in marriage to Barbro K. Hedalen and to this union were born eleven children six having preceded him in death. He leaves to morn his demise his wife and five children, Iver of Decorah, Mrs. G. O. Hove at home, Thomas at home, Mrs. D. Britton of Oelwein and Mrs. Henry Running of Decorah. Funeral services occurred Monday afternoon by Rev. P. Koren, with interment at the Washington Prairie cemetery. Death found this weary wanderer well prepared for the final rest awaiting the promised crown, which shall be the reward of all who toil and struggle. The journey was long and may have been thorny, but the goal was worth the strife. May he rest in peace. We extend our sincere sympathy to the afflicted family.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his name as Thomas Iverson. I don’t know where Strand comes from.
