Funeral services for Marie E. Meyer were held Monday, May 11, 1987 at 11:00 a.m., in the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The soloist was James Womeldorf, Accompanied by the organist Marlys Hager. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Castalia.
Marie Elizabeth Meyer, daughter of Ellend and Martha (Tollefson) Wangsness, was born December 18, 1905 in Calmar. She died Saturday, May 9, 1987 in the Aase Haugen Home at Decorah.
She was baptized and confirmed at Calmar and attended the Springfield School. October 6, 1927 she was married to Valder Meyer. They had 3 sons. They farmed north of Castalia until 1958 when Marie moved to her present home in Castalia. In October of 1986 she became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
During her years in Castalia, Marie had been employed in the Monsky Grocery Store and the MacMillan Grocery Store and as the janitor at the church.
Marie had been a member of the KEWS, the Bloomfield Historical Society, the Zion Lutheran Church and the ALCW. She is preceded in death by her husband, Valder, who died in 1948, and a brother, Henry.
Surviving are three sons, Nanferd and his wife, Nancy, Postville, Kenneth and his wife Nancy, Calmar and Kelly and his fiance, Jeanne Hauer, Decorah, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Elmer Wangsness and his wife, Hazel, Decorah, 1 sister, Bertha Arness, Decorah and a sister-in-law, Edith (Mrs. Henry) Wangsness, Decorah.
Casket bearers were: LaVern Schweinefus, Richard Bollman, William Szabo, Robert Brandt, Merle Monroe and Milton Koenig.
