OBITUARY.
Death claimed Mrs. John S. Wold at two o’clock Monday morning after an illness of several years due largely to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Wold’s maiden name was Elizabeth Espeseth. She was born on May 5, 1837, in Nas Hallingdahl, Norway, and came to America with her parents in 1848. After a residence of two years in Rock Co., Wis., they moved to Allamakee county. She was married to John S. Wold on Jan. 17, 1857, and in 1864 they came to Decorah to make their home. Here they have since resided. Of ten children born to them five survive. They are Philmore of Gladys, N. D., Mollie (Mrs. George Bentley of Bluffton) Charlotte (Mrs. Willard Van Pelt of Decorah) Theodore of Minneapolis and Mabel (Mrs. Frank D. Wilde) of Seattle. Mrs. Wold was a woman of great industry but it was her privilege to be a kind and helpful neighbor as well as a devoted mother, and her children have reason to cherish her memory sacredly. The funeral will be held at the home to-morrow afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Lackland officiating, and interment will be in Phelps cemetery. All her children, except Mrs. Wilde, will be present.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Phelps Cemetery shows she died in 1915 which is obviously an error since this was published in 1914.
