Lyle John Bachelder, age 78. of Decorah, passed away on April 10, 2024 at Northgate Care Center. Lyle was born in Decorah, Iowa on Feb. 18, 1946, and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. Lyle graduated from Postville High School in 1964 where he was active in many sports and a member of National Honor Society.

In 1966 Lyle was united in marriage to Linda Stortz of Decorah, and they were blessed with two sons, Joel and Todd. They Lived in Apple Valley, Minn., and later divorced.

Lyle had many different occupations, working at IBM, John Deere, Freeway Ford and other dealerships and finally managing Postville Ford-Mercury for a number of years. At 16, Lyle joined the Castalia fast-pitch softball team and was the youngest player for many years, he enjoyed biking, fly-fishing, tennis and chess.

Lyle is survived by his son Todd of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers Dale (Pam) and Leon )Sherry); and sister Terrie(Doyle) Allen and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his son Joel Bachelder and parents Harry and Arlette (Svendsen) Bachelder.

Graveside services will be held at Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, on April 28 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of Life at Castalia city park/ball field.
