Charles “Tom” Barnard, age 73, of Johnston, IA, (formerly of Decorah) passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at St. Benedict Catholic Church 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service at the church on Thursday morning.

An avid Lions fan, he was a Michigander who transplanted to Iowa with his wife, of 49 years, Karen and two sons, Paul and Tim. In 1982, they were blessed with daughter Katie and life continued in Decorah IA until his retirement from Keystone AEA. Tom and Karen moved to the Des Moines area to be near Paul and Xin’s children, Mikael - 14 and Bethany - 11 in Waukee. Their son Tim resides in Columbus, OH with his wife Jackie and dogs Gus and Doug and Cleo the cat.

Tom was a member of St. Boniface in Waukee and sponsored a young girl in Guatemala, Maria. He desired to be buried in Decorah where our life really began and where volunteer work was his past time. He will be buried in St. Benedict’s cemetery following his funeral at 11, with luncheon to follow. Poppy his cat misses him as do we all. Go Lions!!
