Attempted Joke Costs Life.
Mason City papers of last Saturday gave accounts of the death of Lloyd Bowman, sixteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Bowman, and a grandson of Mrs. Cyrus McKay of Decorah. According to the Times he retired to his room and going into a closet made a noose of two self-locking straps, and fastened the free end over a clothes hook. When he rested his weight on the strip the lock worked too quick and he strangled to death. His mother and sister heard him in his room but paid no attention to what he was doing never suspecting what he was about. The Times quotes the family physician as authority for the fact that Lloyd was a bright but eccentric youth who was constantly trying to play jokes and scaring people. His last effort proved all too successful for when he was found by his sister life was extinct. Miss Jessie McKay, sister of Mrs. Bowman, went to Mason City Saturday evening to attend the funeral.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Dec. 19, 1896 and died Nov. 15, 1913. He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, IA.
