Died in Washington.
The remains of Ross J. Headington, for many years a well known resident of Winneshiek county, were brought to Decorah Saturday last, and on Sunday were laid at rest in Phelps cemetery, the funeral service being held at two-thirty in the afternoon at the home of John Stortz on Washington street. One who knew Mr. Headington intimately furnishes us with the following obituary.:--
Ross J. Headington was born in Knox county, Ohio, April 15, 1838, and died at his daughter’s home in Hoquiam, Wash., Sept. 22, 1913, aged 74 years, 6 months and 7 days. In the month of February, 1859, he moved with his parents to Winneshiek county, Iowa, and settled on a farm four miles north of Decorah, where he lived the greater part of his life. He leaves three children: Mrs. T. H. Ritchie of Hoquiam, Wash., Mrs. J. A. Johnson of Audubon, Minn., and Lester Headington of Verndale, Minn. There also survive him three brothers and four sisters: Jacob and Frank Headington and Mrs. John Stortz of Decorah, George Heading of Kuroka, Canada, Mrs. Ross Hoffman of Lucerne, Missouri, Mrs. Albert Brace and Mrs. Joseph Everly, both of Laddonia, Missouri. Deceased was a long and patient sufferer, a man of charitable, forgiving disposition that made him a friend to all whom he knew. He was a man of good habits, living honestly and uprightly—a man of true Christian character, and, while not a member of any church, was a firm believer in the Christian faith.
