A telephone message received here on Saturday evening from Cresco brought the sad news of the death of Mrs. Roy Birdsell. It came a great shock to her family and friends as she had been recovering so nicely from her operation and that same day had been able to sit up, but about 7 o’clock without any warning she suddenly passed away. She leaves five small children, who will miss her tender care and it is doubly sad for them as they were bereft of their father only a few months ago. The remains were brought home Sunday. No arrangements have been made for the funeral as they are waiting for word from her brother, John Todd, who lives at Madison S. D.

Mary Emma Todd was born at Frankville, Iowa, Aug. 2, 1882, and died Sept. 6, 1913, at Cresco. She was united in marriage May 22, 1891, to Roy Birdsell, who preceded her in death April 21, 1913. Five children were born to them, three daughters and two sons, Bessie, Esther Inez, Leon and Leslie, who with one brother John L. Todd of Madison, S. D., and one sister Mrs. T. E. Waters of Estherville, Iowa, survive her. She was always a kind, true, loving mother and friend and there are many who mourn her early death and extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral services were held at the Centennial church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Young of Waukon, who also officiated at Roy’s funeral, and she was laid at rest in the beautiful cemetery by the side of her husband.

Transcriber’s Notes: Find a Grave shows this was May and she was born in 1883 and is buried in the Centennial Cemetery. Family Search indicates that their marriage date was May 22, 1901.
