OBITUARY.
MRS. EPHRAIM WEBSTER.
Word came to Decorah relatives and friends last Thursday morning that Mrs. Ephraim Webster died at eight o’clock the evening previous, May 28th, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Whiting in Minneapolis. The remains were brought to Decorah Friday afternoon by Mr. and Mrs. Whiting and service was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas, Rev. G. S. Lackland officiating, with interment in Phelps cemetery.
Emeline M. Smith was born January 26, 1842, in Cayuga Co., N. Y., and with her parents came to Burr Oak, Iowa, in early girlhood. Here in 1864 she was married to Ephraim Webster. They resided on a farm near Burr Oak until 1875 when they moved to Decorah. Mr. Webster died in April, 1891. Mrs. Webster continued to reside here until in April, 1912, when she went to Minneapolis, where she has since resided, dividing her time with her daughters. Of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Webster four survive. They are Mrs. C. J. Pagin and Walter Webster of Decorah, Mrs. Whiting and Mrs. S. M. Merrill of Minneapolis. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one brother, Joel H. Smith of Romona, S. D.
Mrs. Webster was a member of the Methodist church, and though never a woman of outward demonstration she was ever thoughtful of the welfare of those about her and sought constantly, even to her last hours, to be helpful. Her health became impaired nearly two years ago and she has been a great sufferer, but through it all she has borne up with patience and fortitude. Many old friends in Decorah join in condolence to the family in their bereavement.
