DIED ON THE TRAIN.
Roy Birdsell Succumbs While En Route to Hospital at Iowa City.
Roy Birdsell died on the Rock Island train Monday morning while on his way to the hospital in Iowa City. Mr. Birdsell at one time was at Castalia engaged in the restaurant business but lately bought some property in Frankville and started to build. While helping and in lifting a heavy rock he was injured so he had to stop. The matter at the time was not considered serious and no particular attention was paid to it until the attendance of a physician was needed and the difficulty was then found to be more serious than first supposed. He was advised to go to a hospital for examination and possibly an operation. He left Decorah on the Rock Island Monday morning but when the train reached Elgin he was so much worse a physician was summoned. The physician saw it was a serious case but it was possible Roy might get through. Instead of improving he sank rapidly and died between Hazelton had Independence. The remains were brought back to West Union by automobile and arrived in Decorah by train Monday night.

Roy Birdsell was taken very ill with peritonitis last week and as he did not improve was taken to Iowa City this morning, where he will submit to an operation. We trust it will prove successful.
