Herman Hanson, 74 years old, formerly of Calmar and Lawler, died suddenly Thursday, January 12 at a hospital in Fargo, N.D., after being ill for some time with asthma and arthritis.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 15, at 3 p.m.at the Ivers Funeral chapel in Fargo. Burial was at Fargo.
Harvey Hanson of Decorah and Mrs. Roy Dinger of Decorah route 5, his only surviving son and daughter left Friday to attend the funeral.
Mr. Hanson is also survived by two brothers, Louis of Decorah and Bennie of Freeport, Ill., and six grandchildren.
Mr. Hanson was born at Minneapolis, January 3 1876, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hanson. He came with his parents to Winneshiek county as a boy. He attended school in Winneshiek county and was employed for many years by the Milwaukee railroad on the section, out of Calmar.
He left Calmar about 40 yeas ago and settled at Oakes, N.D. and later moved from there to Fargo. He was married to Miss Leve Lee of Lawler, who died about 40 years ago. Four children also preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Lutheran church in Fargo. After moving to Fargo, he operated a steam threshing machine for many years, continuing active in this work through 1949.
