OBITUARY.
TORMOD HOLTON.
Tormod Holton, one of the pioneer Norwegian settlers of Winneshiek county, died Sunday last, the 16th inst., at the home of his son A. T. Holton in this city, having attained his ninetieth birthday on the 20th of January. Mr. Holton was born at Laardal, Telemarken, Norway, and was among the first emigrants who came in 1845 to Koshkonong, Wis. For some time he was engaged in the lumber camps and in rafting on the Mississippi. On November 29, 1849, he came to Washington Prairie, this county, and in 1850 acquired the farm in Glenwood township where he resided until he came to Decorah with his son last year. Subsequent to coming to this county he was married to Mrs. Anne Simonsen Aa, widow of Aslak Aa. Four children were born to them, three daughters and one son. Beside Mr. Holton he is survived by his daughters Mrs. Cornelia Hegtvedt of Dallas, Wis., and Mrs. A. M. Ringdahl of Canton, S. D. His daughter, Mrs. A. Anderson of Inwood, as well as his wife, have passed away. He is also survived by two step-sons, Orran and Isaac, of Crookston, Minn. The funeral was held yesterday at the United church, Rev. O. E. Schmidt officiating, and interment was made in Springfield township. Mr. Holton enjoyed the esteem of a host of acquaintances who knew him as a man of thorough integrity and a loyal citizen.Transcriber’s note: Find a Grave shows Cornelia Hegtvedt’s father was Thormod Aae. His gravestone shows he was born Jan. 24, 1823 and died April 16, 1913. (according to the above it should have shown March 16, 1913.) He is buried in the Springfield cemetery. His wife was Anna who was the widow of Aslak Aae. There are several discrepancies in this obituary but there are also several similarities.
