Mrs. Jacob H. Womeldorf Dead.
Word came to Decorah relatives recently of the death of Mrs. Jacob H. Womeldorf, a former resident of Decorah, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Davis, at Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 2nd. Old residents of Decorah and vicinity will remember Mrs. Womeldorf as the wife of a former sheriff of the county and settler in Canoe township. Her maiden name was Sarah Eli{z}abeth Kniss. She was born March 23, 1841, in Green county, Ohio, and at the age of eight moved with her parents to Freeport, Ill. She lived there a number of years and then removed to Iowa, where she was married to Jacob H. Womeldorf. They moved to Neligh, Neb., from Decorah. Mr. Womeldorf died thirteen years ago. Five children were born to them, three of whom are dead, the survivors being Charles, who resides in Washington and Mrs. Jennie Davis. They also adopted a nephew, Hugh Womeldorf, who survives.
