The community received the sad intelligence the other day that Mrs. Philip Smith, who was in the best of health, went to Cresco Saturday, and while trading in one of the stores there was suddenly and without warning stricken with apoplexy. Death was instantaneous. She was taken to the home of Andrew Smith, where she lay in state until Sunday afternoon when she was taken home. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning by Rev. A. F. Damerow of Decorah. She was a kind and loving mother, a devoted wife and numbered her friends by the scores. Her death is mourned by her husband, four children, a large circle of friends and a number of relatives. May she rest in peace, and her stricken family be comforted by Him who will not let a sparrow fall unless it is His wish. Interment took place in the M. C. cemetery close to the church.
