John Beadle was born in England, Oct. 24, 1829. When two and one-half years of age he came with his parents to Pottsville, Penn., and here he grew to manhood. In 1855 he was married to Mary Huston in Wisconsin, and came directly to Iowa. To Mr. and Mrs. Beadle two sons were born—Robert, who lives on the farm, six miles houth{sic} of Austin, Minn., and Henry, who died about a year ago. In 1900 his wife died and about three years later Mr. Beadle left his Iowa home to take up his residence with his son Robert, at whose home he died, Wednesday, July 26. For over sixty years he has been a consistent member of the M. E. church, and for about forty years a staunch member of the Odd Fellow lodge. Mr. Beadle, although rounding out four score years, enjoyed fairly good health, until about a year ago, since which time he has been under the doctor’s care almost continuously. Quiet and unassuming, he lived, with that mild influence that was up lifting, with a kind word, a gentle smile, a firm handshake for his friends. Faithful to whatever trust was his he has passed into that glad beyond, to meet those who have gone on before, and although we shall miss Grandpa Beadle, as we pass his old home, yet, we know his life has been so lived that it may justly be said, he has earned his “well done,” and has “entered into the joy of the Lord.” The remains will be laid to rest beside those of his wife and son in Bloomfield cemetery. The funeral was held from the M. E. church, Rev. Tipton, the pastor, officiating. Quite a number of the Odd Fellows, of which Mr. Beadle was an honored member, came down to attend the funeral.
