OVERCOME BY HEAT
Dr. J. W. Wells of Ossian Succumbs Sunday After a Short Illness.
After an illness of only one day, Dr. J. W. Wells of Ossian died Sunday last from exhaustion caused by being overheated. Dr. Wells was born on June 5, 1868, at West Union. His medical education was acquired at Rush Medical College, Chicago, where he graduated on March 31, 1894, and at a medical college in Berlin, Germany, where he graduated in 1895. He was married on June 8, 1900, to Miss Victoria Peyer of Ossian. She, with two children, survive him. The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Ossian opera house, Rev. Wn. McVettie of Decorah officiating, and the services in charge of the Masonic fraternity, of which Dr. Wells was a member. The pall bearers were Ole Hauge, John Kneeskern, A. F. Smith, C. H. Gilbert, G. W. Bucknam and W. H. Peckham. Interment was made in Hillside cemetery at Ossian.

The many friends of Dr. J. W. Wells of Ossian were grieved to learn of his sudden death at his home Sunday evening.

On Sunday evening, about six o’clock, Dr. Jacob W. Wells was stricken with a spell of over-exhaustion due to some extent to the extreme heat of the day. Doctors were summoned, but in spite of medical aid he passed away. The funeral services were held at the Ossian opera house on Tuesday at 2 o’clock under the direction of the Masonic order. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, a son and a daughter, his mother and a sister.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he has gravestones both in Hillside Cemetery and in the West Union Cemetery. It shows he died July 2, 1911.
