OBITUARY.
MRS. MARTHA OLSEN
{Illegible} Mrs. Martha Olsen died {illegible} last, June 3d, at her home on West Main street. Mrs. Olson was born on May{?} 8, 1830, in Gulbrandsdalen, Norway, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Lars Vold. They came to America in 1853, residing one year in Chicago, two years in Lansing, Iowa, and then coming to Decorah. Her husband died in 1863. Eight years later she married Hans P. Olsen, who died in 1895. Of four children by the first union two survive—Mrs. E. Nelson of St. Paul and Miss Sophia Vold of Decorah. The only child of the first marriage, Mrs. Henry Ostrem, also resides in Decorah.
Had she lived a few days longer Mrs. Olsen would have completed fifty-five years of residence in Decorah. Early in her life she joined the Lutheran church, of which she remained a member until death claimed her.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the United church, Rev. O. E. Schmidt officiating, and interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery.
