LAMB, LAFAYETTE

At Brookfield, Mo., on the 6th [7th] of September, of typhoid fever, Mr. Lafayette Lamb, son of R. Lamb, Esq. of Yorkshire, N.Y. Mr. Lamb resided in this village until about four years ago, when he removed to [Burr Oak, Winneshiek Co.] Iowa. At the commencement of our present national troubles, he volunteered in defence [sic] of the Stars and Stripes, and at the time of his death was a private in Company “D,” Third Regiment Iowa Volunteers. Mr. L. was a promising young man, possessing a high order of intellect and energy, and his death will be mourned by a large number of friends and acquaintances in this region, as well as in Iowa, where he was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was 25 years of age, and leaves a widow [Zilpha A.] and three boys [Warren H., Henry E., and ___?] to mourn the loss of a kind husband and affectionate father.
