We are this week called upon to perform the sad duty to report a death. Edgar Nels Mestad was born July 23, 1893, near Highlandville, Iowa, and has always been staying at home with his parents. He never was a robust child, and has been ailing more or less at times. But he always was a cheery disposition and was universally liked by his companions. He was the pet of the family. He attended school regularly and was a particularly bright scholar. He was a member of the band, and was musically inclined. He was baptised and confirmed in the Big Canoe church, and was a regular attendant at services, and other church functions. He was an active member of the young people’s society. Until a week ago he was in apparently good health. A week ago last Saturday evening he was taken suddenly ill, and the doctor saw him Sunday morning and pronounced the trouble appendicitis. He seemed to be getting along nicely until Wednesday, when peritonitis set in, and the disease proved itself too much for him. He suffered a great deal and despite the best of nursing and care. And despite the efforts and prayers of his parents and sisters, despite everything being done that could be done for him, death came to relieve his suffering at 8 o’clock Friday evening. It is sad to part with anyone but still sadder when the departing one is in the prime of life. Oh! how little we poor mortals know what the morrow may have in store for us! A week ago Edgar was as well as any of us and to-day he is buried. Dead and gone from our sight. But although the parting is sad it is some consolation to know he has found better place than this world ever could give him, and we can only hope when our time comes we may gain the same place. He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Peterson of Wolf Butte, N. D., and Miss Emma. Besides these a host of relatives and friends. Interment in the Big Canoe church cemetery to-day. At the funeral it was plainly shown in what high esteem the deceased was held, the funeral being largely attended and there was a profusion of flowers sent by admiring and loving friends.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery shows his name as Nels Edgar. It also shows he died Jan. 27, 1911.
