Alan Keune, age 70, of Maumelle, Ark., passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock. A visitation and sharing of memories was held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Sherwood, Ark., on Tuesday evening, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 14, at 4 p.m. at the Fort Atkinson Community Center, with Rev. Burt Williams presiding. Visitation is from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.
Alan Lee Keune was born March 19, 1953, the third son of Kenneth C. and Ruth Pauline (Anderson) Keune. He grew up in Fort Atkinson, IA and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1971. He worked with his dad at Keune’s Tiling and Trenching for several years along with starting his own business, Al’s Backhoe Service. Alan was often seen on the seat of his motorcycle, dune buggy, snowmobile, or 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge.
On February 6, 1986, Alan married Holly Ean in Rochester, MN. Alan managed a Jiffy Lube Store in Rochester. In 1997 they moved to the North Little Rock, AR area. For 21 years Alan operated large machinery, lately operating a quarry haul truck for Granite Mountain Quarry, formally known as McGeorge Contracting Co. Alan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and taking care of their acreage. Alan was lovingly named a forensic consultant in 2004 and a horseshoe aficionado by his family. He was also known for his mechanical skills on any car, truck, or snowmobile. If it was broken, he could fix it. His little secret was sewing (this skill he got from his mother).
Alan is survived by his wife Holly of Maumelle, AR and his two sons, Caleb (Nancy) Keune of West Gardiner, ME and Marshal (Caitlin) Keune of Sherwood, AR, along with 3 grandchildren: Quinn Keune, Paisley Keune and Kiley Keune. His siblings: Mike (Bonnie) Keune of Little Turkey, IA; Kenneth R. (Susan) Keune of Decorah, IA, and Penny (Jamie) Johnson of Sumner, IA,sister-in-law Susan Keune of Marion, IA, brothers and sisters-in-law: Claudette (John) Lamprect of Burnsville, MN, Jay (Renee) Ean of Rochester, MN, Mary Beth Ean of Rochester, MN, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncle and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth C. and Ruth Pauline (Anderson) Keune, his brother Gary Keune, and nephew Mark Keune, his father and mother-in-law Norbert and Loretta (Frana) Ean,
and brother-in-law Bruce Ean.
He leaves us with this quote: “I’m glad you got to see me”.
