OBITUARY.
T. S. HALL.
On Friday last the remains of T. S. Hall, a well remembered resident of Winneshiek county, were brought to Decorah for burial. Mr. Hall died on December 14 at the home of his son Orin at Neligh, Neb., where he had resided for the past two years, the cause of death being dropsy and heart failure. At the time of his death he lacked one day of being ninety-one years of age. He was born on December 15, 1819, in the state of New York, and came to Iowa a half century or more ago. In 1844 he was married to Mary A. Hovey. Six children were born to them, of whom four survive—Mrs. James Darling of Postville, Orin Hall and Mrs. Mary Kathan of Neligh, and Myron Hall of Wade, N. D.
Old residents of Decorah will recall Mr. Hall first as a blacksmith, residing in West Decorah. Later he engaged in the livery business, which he sold out and moved to Ossian. Here he engaged in the hotel business and, with the exception of two years spent at McGregor, this continued to be his home until he moved to Nebraska. It was while they resided at McGregor, thirteen years ago, that Mrs. Hall died.
Mr. Hall was a man of rugged constitution and rugged beliefs in right and wrong. The Gold Rule measured his daily life and he won honor and respect among his fellow men by his sturdy Christion{sic} character.
Orin Hall and daughter and Mrs. Darling accompanied the remains to Decorah and Rev. Lemen conducted a brief service at the Methodist church, after which the remains were conveyed to Phelps cemetery for burial beside those of his wife.
