Beatrice “Bea” Timp, age 96, of Calmar, IA, died on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the Ossian Senior Hospice Nursing Home in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2023, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Henry Huber presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.

Beatrice Teresa was born April 30th, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Lensing of Festina, Iowa. Bea grew up near Festina helping on the farm and with her siblings. She worked at Loras College in Dubuque for a few years where she made lifelong friends. Bea and Vic were married on May 10, 1949, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina, Iowa. Together they farmed east of Calmar, Iowa raising their eight children. In 1980 they retired and moved west of Calmar. Bea was a member of the St. Aloysius Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, the South Winneshiek Country Club, and the church choir.

Bea spent many hours embroidering pillowcases and towels. Each granddaughter received one of her embroidered quilts over the years. A quilting rack was often set up for hand quilting in her dining room. She spent many hours on the golf course with Vic or her golfing friends and became quite a good golfer. Bea was also a great card player or was she just lucky? Everyone wanted her as a partner! Keeping her family in sweets was always a challenge because they were all born with a sweet tooth. She was, however, up to the challenge. Bea enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Victor passed away in December of 2013 and Bea moved to the Ossian Senior Hospice in 2014. She continued to do embroidery and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, and socializing while at the hospice.

Bea is survived by her eight children: Kenny (JoAnn) Timp, Calmar, IA; Betty (George) Backes, Calmar, IA; Marty (Becky) Timp, Calmar, IA; Harvey (Clarice) Timp, Calmar, IA; Randy Timp, Ossian, IA; Lester (Connie Klimesh) Timp, Calmar, IA; Steven (Jolene) Timp, Dyersville, IA; and Rhonda Todd, Calmar, IA.
