THE SILENT REAPER.
WILLIAM PERRY McCLASKEY
Friends of W. P. McClaskey were surprised Tuesday morning to learn of his death which occurs at 2:30 a. m. For the past two years he has been in failing health, but those who were accustomed to seeing him about almost daily did not realize that the end was near. His death was due to general debility.
William Perry McClaskey was born on September 23, 1837, on a farm in Crawford county, Pa., where he lived until about fifteen years of age when the family moved to Waukon, Iowa. Here he continued to reside until he became of age, when he went to Colorado. While there the war broke out and he enlisted in the First Colorado Cavalry, serving three years. At the close of his enlistment he returned to Waukon and remained until 1877 when he married Laura Serfling of Cresco. Six children were born to them, five of whom are living. They are Theodora, Laura and Hazel of Chicago, William of Ken{ne}wick, Wash., and Royal, who is yet a member of Decorah high school. All the children will be present at the funeral, which will be held on Sunday next at Grace Episcopal church Col. Hughes Post will have charge of the service.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
