OBITUARY.
On Saturday last, after a week’s illness from pneumonia and heart disease, Bernard Dresselhaus, a pioneer and well known resident of Pleasant township, passed to his final rest.
Mr. Dresselhaus was born January 6, 1837, at Sebaale, Province of Westfalen, Germany. When he was sixteen years old he came to this country, and lived for a number of years in the vicinity of Chicago. In the year 185{?} he came to Pleasant township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, where he lived until a week before his death, when he was taken to the home of his son Wm. Dresselhaus to give him better care in his severe sickness. On January 2, 1861, he was married to Diedrike Albers. Three children were born to them, one son and two daughters. One daughter died seven years ago, and Mrs. Dresselhaus passed away about a year later. In 1873 Mr. Dresselhaus joined the German M. E. church, of which he was a faithful member until his death. He was one of the first members of the congregation in Canoe township and took active part in organizing it. For many years he served the church as a faithful trustee. During his last sickness he suffered severely, although he had the best of care. He leaves to mourn his death his son, Wm. Dresselhaus, and family, his daughter Mrs. Louis Bender and husband, one brother and other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held November 14 in the German M. E. church in Canoe township, A. F. Damerow officiating, in presence of a large congregation of neighbors and acquaintances, who gathered to pay a last tribute to one they had long held in highest esteem.
The family of Mr. Dresselhaus desire to extend thanks for the sympathy and assistance that was shown them and their father during his last illness and in their hours of bereavement.
