Nellie Lucinda Hastings was born in Allamakee county, March 21, 1878, and her childhood days were spent on a farm with her parents. She was married to Adolph Peck 16 years ago, and to this union were born seven children, two of whom have passed on before. The remaining are Charlotte, Roy, Helen, Hartley, and Elmer. She died June 15th, 1910, after being confined to her bed about a week with tuberculosis, at the age of 32 years. It is always sad when God calls one so early in life from their home, more so when it is the mother who has to leave her little ones who need her tender care. She was a quiet, retiring disposition and her life was in her home, her husband and children and her council and guiding hand will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ziegler, who preached an appropriate sermon on the 18th verse of the 20th Chapter of 2 Sam. The text was chosen by Mr. Peck, as also were the hymns that were sung. Many beautiful flowers covered the casket, placed there by loving hands, and a large concourse of friends followed her to her last resting place in the village cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family in their bereavement.
