KILLED BY AUTOMOBILE.
Little Son of Richard Bucknell Killed While Playing.
It is sad to relate a fatal accident as the close of a day of festivity. Everything connected with the Yeomen’s picnic passed off pleasantly without accident until evening, when the little son of Richard Bucknell was killed by an automobile. The band was giving street concerts and while down by Roy Tracy’s store little Lester Bucknell, attracted by the music, was drawn to the spot. Excited and interested in the music and surroundings, dancing and skipping around, he came in contact with the automobile of Lewis Peterson, which, owing to the crowd, was moving at only a moderate rate, and was struck on the head by the lamp and thrown to the ground unconscious. He was immediately taken to Dr. Daubney’s office and upon examination his skull was found to be fractured the length of eight inches, and Dr. Dana Jewell called, who at once decided that an operation was necessary. Dr. Hoeg was also called to assist. A portion of the skull was lifted and the arteries stopped from bleeding. It was then thought there was a possible chance for recovery but after suffering pain although unconscious he died about one o’clock this morning. Lester was a bright vivacious little fellow, a general favorite with all with whom he came in contact. No blame attaches to Mr. Peterson for the accident. It was one of those distressing happenings that conditions made unavoidable and for which no one feels worse than Mr. Peterson.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 5, 1905 and died June 2, 1910. He is buried in the Phelps Cemetery.
