Those from a distance who came to attend Mrs. Kittinger’s funeral were: Samuel Holcomb of Milford, Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker of Spring Valley, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Topliff and Mrs. C. L. Topliff of Decorah, Ray Topliff of Postville and Mrs. Irvin Allen of Postville.

Rebecca Jane Holcomb was born in Greenbriar Co., Virginia, April 15, 1844. Died in Des Moines, Iowa, April 23, 1910. In her early childhood she came with her parents to Iowa, settling in Winneshiek county, where she grew to womanhood and continued to reside until August, 1902, when she removed to Des Moines where she lived until called to her reward. In 1861 she was united in marriage to D. F. Kittinger, and to this union five children were born, three girls, and two boys, of whom Mrs. James Hunter of Castalia, Mrs. J. N. Topliff and Fred B. Kittinger, both of Des Moines, who together with the bereaved husband, two sisters, Mrs. Esther Lambert of Castalia and Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker of Spring Valley, Minn., seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of friends remain to mourn her loss. She united with the M. E. church early in life and continued an earnest and faithful member until called to the church triumphant. She was a devoted wife, a kind loving mother. The remains were accompanied from Des Moines by the husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Topliff and son Rolla, Fred H. Kittinger and son Frankie. The funeral was held from the U. B. church here Monday, April 25th, at 2 p. m., Rev. Westphal of Postville officiating. The body was interred in Pleasant View cemetery.
