OBITUARIES.
MRS. JOEL DAYTON.
After an illness of only a little more than two weeks, Mrs. Joel Dayton passed away Sunday evening at six o’clock, at her home in West Decorah. News of her death did not become generally known until Monday morning and it brought sorrow to many hearts and generous sympathy for her son and daughter, in their affliction. While Mrs. Dayton had been ill, her condition did not give alarm until Friday when a sudden change developed. From that time until death claimed her she failed rapidly the cause of death being an attack of jaundice and hemorrhage of the stomach.
Mrs. Dayton’s maiden name was Martha Cameron. She was born in Warren county, New York, on April 8th, 1834, hence had just passed into her seventy-seventh year only a few days prior to her death. In December, 1861, she was married to Joel Dayton and came at once to reside in Decorah—a residence that has been made worthy of deeds of Christion{sic} kindness and love that found response in many hearts. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dayton,--Charles H. Dayton of Iowa City and Miss Jennie, who, since the death of Mr. Dayton four years ago, has been her mother’s close companion. Mrs. Dayton is also survived by two brothers and a sister, who reside in the east, and one sister—Mrs. Wm. Smith of Salt Lake City.
The funeral was held at the home yesterday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. W. M. Lemen officiating, and interment was made in Phelps cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she died April 17, 1910.
