Carolyn Walter, 79, passed away Jan. 19, 2023 at Davenport Lutheran Home in Davenport.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Memorials may be designated to Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol in c/o of Smith Funeral Home, PO BOX 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Carolyn was born Aug., 9 1943 in Decorah, Iowa, to Irvin and Marge Tieskotter. She grew up in Decorah, and graduated with the class of 1961. After high school she attended college in Minnesota and was a nanny before moving to Iowa City, and to be closer to her future husband Bill, who was attending the University of Iowa.

On March 21, 1964 Carolyn was united in marriage to Bill Walter in their hometown of Decorah. To this union they had two daughters, Traci and Kelli. In 1978, after living in Ohio and then Nebraska, the couple moved to Grinnell. While Bill had his men’s clothing store, Carolyn worked for Brenton Bank, later Wells Fargo Bank for over 35 years.

Carolyn will be remembered for being Larger than Life. She enjoyed a cold beer, old time rock n’ roll, the beach, the turtles in North Carolina, shelling, reading, gardening, and her daily crossword puzzles. She loved to travel, especially to Florida, and her road trip up the East coast was one of her most memorable trips. Carolyn’s favorite sayings were, “La-di-frickin-da,” and “It is, what it is.”

She is survived by her two daughters, Traci Latham of Ankeny, and Kelli (Darrin) Day of Walcott; her grandchildren, Taylor Elaine Latham of Ankeny, Emma Elaine Day of Walcott, and Trista Maylene Day of Cedar Rapidsl her six great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Shirley Usgaard of Kansas City, MO, Marsha (Jim) Hoffman of Polk City, and Bill (Barb) Tieskotter of Decorah.

She is predeceased by her husband Bill Walter, and her parents, Irvin and Marge Tieskotter.
