Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the start of services at the church.

Gerald Eugene (Gene) McCormick was born on April 4, 1929, to Phil and Lucille (Farrell) McCormick on the farm near Ridgeway, Iowa. Gene graduated from Assumption High School in Cresco, IA in 1948. On August 27, 1951, Gene married Lila Mae Hovden at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, IA. To this union, 7 children were born. Gene was proud to be a farmer. He had crops in the field, raised hogs, and milked Holstein cows. He was very diligent about driving around in his red pickup to look at the crops, and check out the neighborhood farms. When Gene was younger he enjoyed dancing with his favorite dance partner Lila. In his spare time, Gene shot pool in a pool league, enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, and joining his buddies for their Tuesday afternoon card club. He also enjoyed watching TV and listening to the news, reading the newspaper and farming magazines, and getting phone calls and visits from his children and grandchildren. He liked to go to the grocery store every day to get 1 or 2 things. He enjoyed his morning coffee, (with just a little sugar), his Wheaties, (again, with just a little sugar), and a good hamburger. (But please don’t spoil it by putting cheese on it.) He lived many comfortable and enjoyable years in his home in Cresco after retiring and moving off the farm.

Gene is survived by his children Lynn (LuAnn) McCormick of Cresco, IA, Teri Denny of Cedar Falls, IA, Jaci McCormick of Rochester, MN, Jodi (Randy) Wagner of Decorah, IA, Gena (Pete) McCaffrey of Decorah, IA, Troy McCormick of Mason City, IA, and Kendra (Everett) Dunnick of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren Matt (Kacie) Denny, Brett (Shannon) Denny, Amber Hagen, Casey (Sonja) Corcoran, Tiffany (Tim) Dahlberg, DesiRae (Jason) Krosch, Kyle McCormick, Kelsey (David) Vohs, Claudia, Isaac, and Cormac Dunnick; great-grandchildren Gage and Gatlin Dahlberg, Sophia Krosch, Bayne and Bryor Denny, Paxton and Briggs Denny; sister-in-law Rosemary Vopava; and brother-in-law Roger Hovden and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lila on February 20, 2008, and his sister Margaret (James) Courtney.
