Jacob Exe passed away Sunday evening at about 8:30 after an illness of three days from pneumonia. Mr. Exe was one of the pioneer settlers of this township, and has always lived at his farm home two miles northwest of Highlandville. He was a man who in his younger days was a giant and at his present age, above 80 years, was a match for any ordinary man. In his younger days he would handle a sugar barrel weighing 500 pounds, as easy as an ordinary individual could handle a dollar’s worth. At one time he carried a painter at the top of a 20 foot ladder from one side of the barn to the other without passing time to have the painter come down. The past couple of years he has been afficted with shaking palsy, and though his death came rather suddenly, it was expected at most any time. He leaves to mourn his death a wife and one son and several brothers and sisters, besides one daughter, Mrs. J. Fadness.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Dec. 31, 1829 and died Oct. 4, 1908. He is buried in the Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery.
