ELLICKSON, THYGESEN, GRANGAARD

Mrs. George N. Ellickson, 74, of 717 Maple Ave. died October 16 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital of cancer. She had been ill a year and six months. Funeral services are being held today (Thursday, Oct. 19) at 2 o'clock at the Decorah Lutheran Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, Pastor Alden H. Hovda will conduct the final rites.

Pallbearers are Howard Ellickson, James Ellickson, Lee Ellickson, Alan Ellickson, Keith Paulson and Arne Grangaard. A ladies quartet will sing accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Otto Ruen. Arrangements are being made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ellickson had taught music at Calmar and Winterset, Ia. and also taught rural schools in both Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties before her retirement.

A resident of Decorah for 33 years, she was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and active in church work. She belonged to the ALCW, a church circle and earlier had participated with the church choir. She received her education at Waldorf College Academy at Forest City, Ia. and graduated from St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn. in 1925. She was a member of the St. Olaf choir.

She was married to George N. Ellickson June 21, 1933 at her home in Allamakee County, and he survives his wife's death. Also surviving are two sons, Rodney Ellickson of Burnsville, Minn. and Gerald Ellickson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren and three sisters, Idelia Thygesen, Anne Thygesen and Mrs. Conrad Grangaard, all of Waukon.

The former Luella M. Thygesen, Mrs. Ellickson was born January 28, 1898 in Allamakee County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Thygesen of Waterville, Ia., Center Township. Mrs. Ellickson's mother was born in Norway and arrived in America at the age of 15.
