Emmett (Bill) Ryan, 70, of Decorah and formerly of Monana, Ia. died October 12 in University Hospitals, Iowa City, IA.

Mr. Ryan of 208 West Main street was a retired painter. He and his wife had moved to Decorah seven years ago in 1965.

Funeral services for Mr. Ryan were held Monday, Oct. 16 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, with burial in the church cemetery. Schultz Funeral home at Monona was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife, Stella; two daughters, Mrs. John (Kathleen) O'Hara of Decorah and Mrs. Conrad (Ethna) Bartels of Mr. Prospect, Ill,; two sons, Larry of Glendora, Calif. and John of Monona; 14 grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Ryan of Monona, Mrs. Edwin (Lorena) Buman of Harlan, Ia., Mrs. Forrest (Mary) McIntosh of Des Plaines, Ill. and Mrs. Genevieve Utt of Eden, Idaho, and three brothers, Edmund of Monona, Dr. Allen Ryan of Madison, Wis. and Dr. Louis Ryan of Edmond, Okla.

Mr. Ryan was born in Monona in 1902 and received his education there. He had been in ill health for some time.
