Funeral services for Mrs. Otto Miene were held Wednesday, April 11, 1990 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Florence Emma Wilhelmine Miene, daughter of August and Caroline (Dietrich) Schutte, was born July 6, 1904 in Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. She died Saturday evening, April 7, 1990, in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa.
She was baptized September 11, 1904, by Rev. Bockelman in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville and confirmed there on August 26, 1917, by Rev. Schmidt. She attended the rural school near her home.
On January 7, 1925 she married Otto Miene at the home of her parents near Castalia. They had 5 children. They farmed all of their lives and moved to Postville when they retired.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Elmer Schutte and a sister, Amanda Sander.
Surviving are her husband, Otto; 3 sons, Paul of Postville, Cloy of Wichita, KS, and Mark of Bel Air, MD; 2 daughters, Betty (Mrs. Richard Kruse) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Mary (Mrs. Donald Chicken) of Burlington, IA; 2 brothers, Walter Schutte of Castalia and Helmuth of Postville, and 2 sisters, Velma Block of Postville and Marie (Mrs. Fred) Miene of Monona, 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Women of the ELCA. One of her great loves was gardening and her flowers, especially her roses.
Casket Bearers: David Miene, Michael Miene, Larry Miene, Robert Chicken, Thomas Chicken, Peter Miene, Kevin Miene, Eric Miene and Jonathan Miene.
